Job Description:        Senior Test Engineer

 

Hoya Xponent is currently transferring its innovative fiber-optic products to high volume production.   The company has an immediate opening for a Senior Test Engineer  to manage/own the development, procurement and deployment of next generation test hardware and software to support high-volume off-shore production.  Of particular  importance is the creation and execution of  a strategy for production test including scalable data management & software architecture strategies.  Candidates must have experience managing both hardware and software vendors/developers and will be expected to work cross-functionally with design and applications engineering.

 

Experience with standard optoelectronic/communications test equipment (BERTs, optical and electrical spectrum and network analyzers, low noise voltage/current meters, etc …) is necessary.  The candidate should have a firm grasp of database design and be able to quickly and effectively implement changes under software change control.  A solid understanding of laser and photodiode optical and electrical characteristics is needed, as is an appreciation for the problems associated with development of test stations for high volume manufacturing.    Additional software responsibilities include creating tools for data analysis and product logistics.

 

Applicant must be able to demonstrate the ability to take ownership of projects with minimal supervision. He or she will be expected to multitask on multiple projects in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.  Excellent oral and written communication skills will be needed to interact effectively with hardware / software developers, product development engineers and managers and off-shore test set end users.

 

The key responsibilities and deliverables will include:

  1. Ownership of test set hardware & software development to support product development and production
  2. Ownership of production test stations, capacity, cycle time and stability
  3. Oversight of test set hardware development in support of new product introduction
  4. Creation and implementation of scalable data management & software architecture strategies;
  5. Implementation of six-sigma disciplines such as Gauge R&R, SPC and FMEA.
  6. Training and documentation;
  7. Supplier and contract manufacturer relationship management in support of a low cost, mass production-worthy test strategy.

 

Education & Experience:   Masters + 2 years experience, Bachelor’s + 4 years experience and/or appropriate industry experience.   Preferred field(s) of study: Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Controls

Required Skills:     Candidates will be expected to be well-versed in RF and optoelectronic testing, instrument control, e.g., GPIB, software development (especially in Visual Basic) and database implementation in MS/SQL.  Excellent organization and communication skills are essential.  A demonstrable ability to both plan and then execute to plan is paramount. Previous experience with production test transfer to offshore facilities is highly desirable.  Experience with the following is also relevant: PCB design and layout, mechanical and thermal design, SPC and statistical analysis, transceiver design and test, embedded software development
